Anthony Gilmore is a passionate young scholar, leader, and activist from Compton, California. While attending Cerritos College, Anthony served as a Student Government Senator, where he led an awareness campaign to pass a bond measure to receive $350 million dollars in funding for the college over time. After completing an AA in Economics with high honors, Anthony transferred to the University of California, Berkeley where he received his bachelor’s in American Studies and a minor in Political Economy. Anthony is a George A. Miller Scholar recipient, which gave him the opportunity to research at the University of Chicago. His undergraduate research focused on the politics of cities as war zones in Chicago. Anthony’s interdisciplinary lens and complex understanding of race, class, gender, and social stratification has added a refreshing and important perspective to the HOLA community. His commitment to education and social change is also reflected in his experience serving as a mentor for Black youth in the Bay Area while attending UC Berkeley. Anthony’s understanding of inequality, leadership experience, and his dedication to the members of his community all contribute to his qualities as a servant leader.
