Jazz Band Director and Coordinator
Tim McKay is a freelance woodwind player, composer, and educator. After completing his bachelor's in jazz saxophone at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, he moved to Los Angeles to continue his studies at USC. After graduating with a master's, he has been active in the jazz, R&B, pop, and Latin musical worlds in Los Angeles. He has performed with artists such as Frankie Vallie, Seth MacFarlane, Jason Derulo, Branford Marsalis, Cheryl Lynn and many others.
As an educator, Tim is a strong proponent of music education being a tool in social justice. He is a strong advocate of the woodwind pedagogy techniques of Joe Allard and Trevor Wye, and also works to employ the methods of his first jazz teacher from Oakland, CA, Khalil Shaheed.
