Ben Ede is a performer and educator in the L.A. area. By day, he teaches music at Sequoyah High School, an independent school in Pasadena dedicated to social justice and experiential learning. Here at HOLA, he is a member of the Jazz faculty at HOLA Music Studios, where he directs Jazz Band B and teaches private lessons for guitar, bass, and drums. Ben has worked throughout HOLA's Music offerings and has been an academic tutor as well as a music electives teacher for the Youth Orchestra students. He is also the founder and former music coordinator of Kid City Hope Place, a nonprofit after-school program dedicated to fostering youth leadership in low income communities.
Ben and his guitar “Jessie” perform regularly with The Wiseguys, a Vegas-style big band led by the Mayor of Montebello. He also performs with the Pay It Forward Band, an organization dedicated to using music to effect changes in the nursing home system. And every Sunday, he plays lead guitar for gospel churches in South L.A., in addition to freelance work and private lessons.
Ben holds Bachelor of Arts degrees in Philosophy and Jazz Studies from Cal State, Los Angeles and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the Longy School of Music. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Cal State, Los Angeles.
