High School Program Coordinator
Marcela Saavedra was born and raised in the sectors of South Central and Watts. Despite becoming a teen mother at the age of 15, Marcela pushed forward with her education with the help of her family. After high school, she attended Long Beach City College (LBCC) and transferred to the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) where she received her bachelor’s degree in Chicana/o Studies with a minor in Education. She then continued her education and received her master’s in Ethnic Studies with a concentration in Latina/o studies at San Francisco State University (SFSU).
Marcela has worked alongside several communities, but her passion lies in guiding students to achieve academic success and pursues higher education. She firmly believes that past mistakes cannot prevent a student from pushing forward and pursuing what they want. As HOLA’s PAT Coordinator, she hopes to not only be a positive influence but to also learn from the students. Lastly, Marcela is known to be a hip-hop junkie, bookworm, and a muxerista. She loves to dance and eat Hot Cheetos in her spare time.
