All of HOLA’s academics, arts, and athletics programs came together recently to celebrate a Back to School Night in which over 130 backpacks full of school supplies were given out to students!

Back to School Night highlighted the culture of learning, curiosity, and sharing that students and their families can find at HOLA. Everywhere you looked there were smiling faces, grateful parents, and fun to be had all around.

Students were delighted by a surprise visit by actor Denzel Whitaker, a star in the Oscar-nominated film Black Panther, who pledged a generous donation at the event and plans to volunteer this upcoming year at HOLA.

Each program hosted an activity booth so students could have a fun exploration of all that HOLA has to offer. Students were given passports to stamp at each program booth. There were various activities at each booth in addition to music by HOLA’s Rock Band and a duet of cellists from the YOLA at HOLA program.

The Bridges Middle and High School Academics booth had students and parents engaged in an interactive team building game. Meanwhile, other onlookers watched and cheered them on. The excitement was up!

A Bridges middle school student and her mother observed how a device broke apart and pulled itself together again, while they were at the Scientific Arts booth. They were both smiling, having fun as they took turns to play with the device.

Standing just a few feet away from two high school YOLA at HOLA cellists playing their instruments, a SmartStart elementary student looked enthralled, listening to their music as it filled the courtyard. She lingered for a while, before getting her passport stamped at the Music booth.

We are proud to say that every student who attended walked away with a backpack full of school supplies. Backpacks were equipped with notebooks, binders, folders, pens, pencils, sharpeners, glue sticks, composition books, notebook paper, crayons, and markers. We are so grateful to Baby2Baby, Blue Shield of California, Yoobi, and various private donors for providing these essential tools for our students’ success. Refreshments were generously provided by Boxed Water, and Herbalife Nutrition provided a free t-shirt giveaway for parents and students. Thank you to all for making this possible!
