Construction Update: Container Classrooms Have Been Placed!

BY Galina Joyce Peters, HOLA Development and Communications Manager

Over the course of just four weeks, 46 recycled shipping containers arrived and became a three-story building  at the site of HOLA’s future Arts & Recreation Center in Lafayette Park. See a time lapse video of this amazing feat!

The next steps will include putting in the floor of our state-of-the-art Performance Pavilion, where the community will enjoy performances by Heart of Los Angeles’ Youth Orchestra program, YOLA at HOLA, which we run in partnership with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Set to open late Summer/early Fall 2019, our iconic new Center will expand the number of youth and families served through high quality arts, athletics, and enrichment programming by 74%! With more than 300 families currently on the waiting list at HOLA, we are thrilled to be able to join with partners to meet the needs of our community.

This building project is the first of its kind! This is the first time the City of Los Angeles' Department of Recreation & Parks has partnered with a nonprofit organization to provide community programming using innovative, cost effective, and environmentally friendly shipping containers in a public park.

Stay tuned for details about our Grand Opening, set for Fall 2019!
