HOLA Welcomes Ziggy Marley
On a beautiful fall afternoon, Heart of Los Angeles was thrilled to welcome Reggae icon Ziggy Marley to the HOLA campus. Ziggy stopped by to lend his gardening skills, planting fruit trees and vegetables with our SmartStart elementary students. The kids are all part of HOLA's Healthy Cooking Program, led by Chef Alex. The group planted broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, herbs, and a variety of fruit trees. In addition to getting their hands dirty, the group also discussed the importance of healthy eating. Once the fruit and vegetables mature, they will be used by Chef Alex in his Healthy Cooking Classes. In these classes, the students learn how to take care of the fruit and vegetables they planted and how to incorporate them into healthy meals.
After spending the afternoon planting with the SmartStart kids, Ziggy stopped by the high school department to chat with several of the students. The students told Ziggy about their upcoming service learning projects and the work they have been doing in the community. Ziggy spoke to the students about the importance of giving back. The students were very excited to meet him and before he left, he graciously signed autographs and posed for pictures.
A huge thanks to Ziggy for stopping by and supporting the kids.
