Meet the Artist: George Stoll

This January, HOLA 's Meet the Artist series played host to an evening with artist, George Stoll. George reprised a power-point lecture on his work that he recently gave at Yale University School of Sculpture.  He spoke to students and faculty in our El Corazon Gallery. In the presentation he addressed his resistance to becoming an artist and the steps that finally drew him into making art: his love of creating things. In addition, George also spoke about his year spent in Italy. In 2005 he became a Fellow of The American Academy in Rome, where he was able to study extensively.  George currently lives in Los Angeles and is represented by the Kim Light Gallery.

In March, the artist James Brown will travel from his home in Merida, Mexico to give a presentation of his work, "In My Other House" .

Past artists in the lecture series have included Lucas Reiner, Robin Mitchell, Rocky Schenk, and Katherine Sherwood.  Art students at HOLA have also been treated to visits by Kiki Smith from New York and Demian Flores from Oaxaca, Mexico.

In addition, HOLA's El Corazon Gallery recently hosted a lecture by Pina Regioneri, the director of Casa Buonarotti in Florence, who spoke to the students about the life and work of Michelangelo.
