Art exhibit featuring monoprints by L.A. artist, Peter Alexander, in collaboration with HOLA’s alumni and resident artists, Javier Carrillo and Maria Galicia. Curated by Dan McCleary and Patricia Yossen, the exhibit also showcases monoprints inspired by Peter Alexander’s work and created by HOLA’s Bridges art students.
Heart of Los Angeles Visual Arts Department welcomed Peter Alexander as the 2009 artist in residence from February 23 to March 9. Assisted by HOLA alumni and artists, Javier Carrillo and Maria Galicia, Mr. Alexander created a series of 40 palm tree monoprints. The monoprints were produced using HOLA’s own El Corazon printing press. Ten of these monoprints were donated by Mr. Alexander to HOLA’s Fine Arts Department and will be on view at El Corazon Gallery from December 5, 2009 to January 16, 2010. While at HOLA, Mr. Alexander interacted with students, ages 10-14, from Patricia Yossen’s Bridges Art Class. The students observed him at work and used live palm tree models and a simplified printing technique to produce a series of prints that will be on view along with those donated by Mr. Alexander.
